"Matt, wake up! We have work to do!"
Groaning, Matt sat up, and looked around. He was in the alleyway he had gone to bed in the night before, so all seemed to be well. He padded his pockets, just to make sure everything was secure. He was pretty sure Raighlot would wake him anything major happened, but luckily nothing big had happened. Yet.
Standing, he walked out of the alleyway, and into a large bustling crowd of people. This was his intention, however, to fit in and get lost in the crowd. It was what he had been doing for as long as he could remember. His Voice, however, had other plans in store.
"Matt, we must find our allies! First of all, your protector!"
"Well, where is she?" Matt muttered, taking out a cigarette, and putting it in his mouth. He snapped his fingers, and a small flame appeared in his hand. Moving it close to the cigarette, he promptly lit it, and shook his hand to put out the flame. It was a neat little trick that Raighlot had taught him, something he could do now that he was the incarnate.
"Would you stop smoking?" The Voice said irritably. Matt grimaced, but kept the cigarette firmly in his mouth. It was a habit he had picked up since Luther's death, and there was little way to break it now. "Very well, then, fine. As for where young Procella is, I would advise you to use those Incarnate powers I taught you so much about."
"Or very little at all," Matt said under his breath, and stuck his hands in his pockets. He moved through the crowd, looking around. Finally, he took one hand out, and held it aloft. It glowed slightly, and a single ray of light appeared, pointing off to the north, far away, towards the mountains on the horizon.
"Ah... she's that far away? That may be a dangerous trip. We may need some form of... ally."
"Ally? Where the hell could I find someone who would possibly help me out in this town? With all the problems you've caused in the past, there's no one who would dare risk their lives to help me out."
"Silence! We need to find an appropriate travel partner, in case some force of... evil would attack. Not that you wouldn't be able to take care of this. After all, I did choose you as my incarnate."
Matt said nothing, but decided to head towards the nearest tavern. It was better than listening to Raighlot whine.
