It was a time of idleness on the fields. Most of the farmers were inside their quaint little homes, enjoying their supper with their families.
Kyethra strolled along the worn path through the fields. So many things were in bloom and would soon be ready to harvest. She had seen so many fields like this start out from nothing but dirt and rise to tall plants, cut away and turned into food or raw materials. It was an amazing and interesting process. Kyethra had to congratulate the humans for having such patience to create a living off of their crops. Their lives were so short and fragile it was a wonder that did not get bored with it and give it up.
The sound of children's laughter reached her ears. Curious, she made her way to the source. They were no longer laughing, though, when she reached them. They had been playing with a ball, and now it has somehow become stuck in a tall tree. The children's small faces were turned up sadly to the tree.
Kyethra paused. They had not seen her yet, so she debated on whether she should leave them to figure it out on their own - after all, children need to learn for their mistakes - or if she should help them.
With another moments thought, she walked over to the group of children, past them, and to the base of the tree. She nimbly scaled the trunk and lifted herself onto the branch that had caught the ball and plucked the toy from its gnarled grasp. She dropped lightly to the ground and presented the toy to the children with a smile.
The children - there were four of them, three boys and a girl - gathered around her and gazed at her in amazement. Kyethra laughed as they began asking her, "How did you do that?" "Teach me how to climb trees!" "Will you play with us?" They gratefully took their ball and now began to bicker amongst themselves on who got to play with the "Tree Lady." Amused, Kyethra sat on the ground, leaning her back against the tree, letting the children fight over her for a moment longer.
Finally she spoke up, laughter in her voice, "Now, now, dear innocence," she said to the children. "It's getting late. You should finish you game of ball and then return home. No need to fight over a stranger. If you're lucky, I might be here tomorrow for you to play with," she suggested. The children exchanged glancing, knowing that the Tree Lady was right. They came to a silent agreement and returned to kicking the ball around after saying their farewells. The little girl even gave her a hug before happily turning to her friends, saying "See you tomorrow!"
Kyethra stayed where she was, under the tree, watching the children play. Fragile innocence. Something that could be broken at the slightest pressure from the world around it. She thought about all the wars she had seen. So much blood spilt and lives lost. These children did not deserve a world full of chaos. Kyethra had observed these Incarnate Wars and found them to be a useless waste of time. It was these Incarnates that would break such fragile lives. Then again, she hated all wars.

"Beautiful isn't it? Innocence of children, that is."
Marzen Sapphire walked through the fields, up to Kyethra, notebook in his hand. A complex formula was written on the paper. He began twirling his pencil in the other hand as he talked.
"I'm surprised such innocence can live on in these tough times. Not to mention those who would help fuel such innocence. I saw that whole thing. You could have simply left that ball in the tree, taught those children an important lesson. But you didn't. Why is that?"
He smiled, and stopped spinning his pencil. He placed it behind his ear, shoved both hands into the pockets of his giant lab coat, and waited for an answer.

Before she could respond, a new sound reached their ears. It was a laugh, quiet but plainly sinister. There was no direct indication as to where the voice was coming from.
"Heheh...indeed. Such innocence can be so quickly disrupted, can it not? So fragile is the balance between stability and chaos. And to quickly can it fall into the latter. Heheh..."
Soon after, there was the smell of burning wood. A nearby house, probably that in which the children lived, was shaded by a large tree. One of the largest limbs, directly over the house, was ablaze and in great danger of collapsing. Already, burning leaves and embers were cascading onto the roof.
"Better hurry, lest the scales tip. Haha!"
The voice faded away as it was replaced with the sounds of more limbs in flames.

She looked up and blinked at the newcomer who questioned her actions. Why did she help the children? Perhaps she was bored, or perhaps she just wanted to be nice and be a hero for the youths. Whatever her reasons, a direct answer was far from her mind. She observed him curiously, but, of course, she had no time to give him any kind of reply. It did not surprise her that the peacefulness of this place was interrupted, for all good things eventually come to an end. Her gaze shifted to the fire. Knowing the luck of the common people, there was probably someone still inside the house.
The children, having wandered elsewhere, had not seemed to have noticed the hazardous disruption just yet. Kyethra did not make a move toward the home and made no indication that she was going to help. She was more curious about who or what it was that caused it. Magic was frowned upon in this area, which made it a curious event.
Kyethra calmly got to her feet to face the tree and home with a brief glance around, seeing if she could make use of the surrounds and if there was anyone hiding and preparing an ambush - a habit from the time she lead armies to battle. Plus, since she could not see the actual cause of the fire and the source of the voice, she just wanted to be cautious. She looked back over to the man in the lab coat and gave him an inquiring look with a sly smile as if to wordlessly ask if he was going to help.

Marzen took out a toothpick, and stuck it in his teeth so it was hanging out of his mouth. He gave an inquiring look towards the fire, and raised an eyebrow at the sudden violence and destruction. He sighed, then grinned again, and looked over at Kythera.
"Might want to do something about this, eh?"
He reached into his lab coat, and took out an aqua-blue grenade. Smiling, he ripped off the trigger of the grenade, and threw it into the tree.
The grenade exploded as soon as it hit the tree, not into flames, but into water. A giant torrent of water rushed forth out of nowhere, and squelched the burning tree with a hissing sound. Unfortunately, much of the fire had already spread to the roof, which was burning in an inferno. Marzen grimaced for a second, then turned to Kythera.
"We'll have to continue our conversation at a later date, Miss. I'll go into the house to see if anyone else is in there; that was my last Aquanade. If you could, please try and find who is behind these random acts of destruction. Thank you, and do be careful.
Without waiting for an answer, he rushed towards the house, and slammed shoulder first into the door, phasing through the smoke.

"Haha! Oh, it would be so unfortunate if there is someone in that house. The father of those children, perhaps? It would be so....wonderful if he is caught in the flames, no? Haha, without him, their little farm would soon collapse out of neglect. Who knows, maybe the whole family will starve to death! HAHA! Yes! The scales have tipped, chaos reigns! HAHA!"
Standing in the treetops, not far from the house ablaze, stood Roy in his black overcoat, crimson eyes dancing with happiness as he observed his little inferno.

"The scales have tipped...? I think not...."
Holloway appeared upon a bale of hay disturbed that someone would want to upset the scales of life. Holloway did not understand the situation, but he quickly judged it. He had a plain in mind, and now was his time to act.
"The scales will never tip on towards one way, that just isn't ....fair. Perhaps, I should intervene... Then again would it not be unfair to help just one side?" Holloway made his way over to a tree. Looking up, he saw a malevolent figure standing and observing the blaze. The inferno seemed like a reflection of the fire in his eyes. Holloway felt disgust as he watched the repulsive figure.
This is the culprit. Holloway thought. I'll kill him and then I'll kill those others, after all, I don't want them tipping the scales either...
"Excuse me sir, you don't seem too busy. I promise this won't take too long. May I ask you a question or are you too busy incinerating the innocent? I believe that you tipped the scales around here, and I intend to equalize them, by killing with you..."

With her hand on her hip, Kyethra watched the man in the lab coat for a moment as he left to enter the burning house. She had every intention on finding the creator of the fire, anyway. With a sigh, she brushed her hair out of her eyes as she cast her senses around her to locate any abnormal presences nearby. She quickly found a malicious aura and headed in the direction of its source.
Kyethra calmly approached the two, not caring if she was interrupting something or not. "Oh hello, what's going on over here?" she asked innocently with her sly smile. Her observant eyes took in the man in the tree and the man at the base of the tree. It was easy to tell who it was that had caused the fire, but she wondered who the second male was.
She tilted her head slightly to the side in an inquiring way, folding her arms behind her back and looking altogether relaxed. Her stance often threw people off. She looked completely relaxed and carefree, unworried about an attack, but with her true intentions masked behind her somewhat friendly expression. Although she looked off-guard, she was fully prepared to defend herself should one of the two beings before her were to become hostile for whatever reason.

Marzen moved quickly through the smoke, bending down every so often to breath in, underneath of the blackened air. It was too dark to see anything, unlike what one would normally think. He suddenly stopped, and listened around. Hearing nothing, he shouted out, "Anybody in here?"
A slight, depressing cough responded in the darkness, and Marzen stood up straight. He grinned, took out another grenade, tossed it, and shouted, "Let there be light!"
The extreme light shone out the windows, and pierced the shadows of the fire. It lingered enough for Marzen to see a middle-aged man, the farmer of the household. He was in bad shape; barely concious, legs trapped under burning wreckage.
"Oh no you don't, mate," Marzen said, grabbing the rubbage and throwing it aside, not caring about the fact that it was on fire, "You can't die on me like that. What will your kids do? You need to live."
The farmer looked up at him, too weak to even speak, but thankfulness obvious in his eyes. Marzen smiled, and shook his head. "Anyone else here?" The farmer slowly shook his head no, so Marzen reached down, and grabbed the man. Slinging him over his shoulder, Marzen looked around. The light was beginning to fade, but there was a window over there.
Quickly, Marzen jumped through the window feet first, in a kick that obliterated the glass. He landed lightly in the grass, and lay the farmer down. "Rest here, friend, you'll be fine. I'll get to you in a moment." He looked off into the distance, seeing three figures on a hill. "First, I believe I need to find out what's even going on here. So much for a pleasant walk."

"HAHAHA! Burn!"
Roy watched as Matt ran into the house. "Heh. Can't be helped. Hopefully he won't make it out alive." Then he added, shouting at Matt: "RUN RUN, BEFORE YOU'RE WELL DONE!"
It was now that he noticed the two new characters in front of him, and restlessly listened to what Holloway had to say. "Well, my confused friend. I don't think you know who you're dealing with here." With a snap of his fingers, Holloway's hat caught on fire. "Don't mess with me. As for you..." He turned his gaze reluctantly over to Kyethra. "What does it look like's going on? I'm burning down some farmer's house to cause some death and panic. No scent is sweeter that that of baking flesh! Haha!"
